A Pair of Bills in Congress threaten Internet freedom

Tech NewsA Pair of Bills in Congress threaten Internet freedomThere’s a pair of bills in the Senate and Congress which would grant the federal government the right to ban any website and put it on a blacklist. Worse, it would also grant private entities like the MPAA and the RIAA the right to blacklist a site. And both without due process. Leo recommends going to eff.org and learning about Protect IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act SOPA. While there, find your rep and contact them. Tell them if they vote for either of these, you won’t vote for them in the coming election.

How do they see us?

I was thinking today while running, I wonder if I am making an impression for the good in my world meaning to the people around me at both work, church and my family. In the same way; I do consider myself to be a “Christian” but prefer the term “Christ follower” and I think of all the new stories I hear almost daily how so called “Christians” are making really bad impressions to the world at large and it really hurts me to see that. I think back to Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggert and what a mess of an example they made to the world and wish things of this mangitude would not happen but understand it probably always will. Some of my other thoughts are that “people of the world” would not want to become “Christians” seeing all of this hypocrital stuff going on in the world which brings me to why I am writing this Blog.
Having mentioned all the bad “Christian” views our world may have I would hope that people will see something different in me and my world, Similarily; I would like to mention that people like Billy Graham and Chuck Swindol just to name a few are living the “Christian life” the “correct way” and I am proud to say these men are true “Christ followers” and they and their ministries are living examples that the world can see. I guess I want the world to see that “my life speaks so loud of Christ’s love” that people may not hear what I am saying but will sure see it by example. I am not saying that I am there yet but I want to say with the apostle Paul from Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Nurses Use Smartphones

Sarasota Memorial Hospital deploys devices for time-saving messaging, bed tracking and more…

This is a great example of how technology can be used for improvement of patient care initiatives. I am proud to work at Sarsota Memorial Hospital and we were the first one to implement this technology at our hospital.

Here is an excerpt of the article linked above:

Better & Quieter

The smartphone solutions have been a big win all around at Sarasota.

“It really has helped communication on our busy 48-bed unit,” Baxter said. “We each have six patients on nights and, if I’m in a room with the door shut caring for a patient, I can’t hear outside pages. When I’m in charge of the unit, I can locate the nurses I need right away or they can text me when they need help.”

The unit clerk used to walk around the unit on nights if she really needed to find a particular nurse.

“But now she just texts us and we answer her,” Baxter said. “She can let me know a doctor is on the phone, for example, and I can text back that I’ll need to call him back, or that I’ll be right out. The patients appreciate the reduced noise level now that we don’t have so many overhead pages.”

Google’s changing the search game again

Google’s changing the search game again

Google has changed it’s search algorithms again. Some say it protects searchers from sites that offer articles that are designed to get ads in front of you, while others – like Amanda Hesser – say it will change the way we do things like eat. Google’s new algorithms will benefit companies that will game the system easier and provide less choice in the search results we get. And it underscores just how much power Google has in what does, and does not exist on the Internet.

Hello world!

Welcome to my new WordPress.com blog.

This is my first attempt to enter the real world of blogging and beleive it or not I am a very technical person as given my username TechieRN might be a dead giveaway. I am not sure if I will update my blog everyday but I will certainly be able to share some of my feelings with whomever would like to read them and perhaps I will even get a following, imagine that.
